MovingBlocks

Research free software/tools and how to use them for Terasology

Developing a game is not only about coding and programming, but also about producing different assets which are used all over in the game. Assets such as block textures, voxel models, or sound effects are not directly related to programming, but are still a very important part of the game. We encourage the use of free and open source software for the creation of these assets.

Your task is to present one tool/software that (you already know or you want to learn more about) with regard to its use for Terasology. You should write a (short) wiki page or paragraph explaining the tool's purpose and how it can be used by other contributors.

Definition of 'Done'

A wiki page (will be placed in the "Art" section of the wiki sidebar), containing the following:

  • The name of the tool/software along with a link to its' website, GitHub repository etc.
  • A short description of the tool. What can be created with it (PNG images, MP3 sound files, 3D models)? How can it be used to contribute to Tersaology?
  • Instructions on how to create assets for Terasology with it - for example, a link to relevant tutorials on the tool's wiki or a short tutorial of your own.

Where to start?

  • Think about the different categories of assets used in Terasology: modeling, texturing, sound effects and so on. Here are some examples of tools you can research:
    • Modeling: MagicaVoxel, VoxelShop
    • Texturing: Gimp, Krita
    • Sound asset creation: bfxr
