KDE

[Marble] Build Marble with Vector Tile Map Support

This task belongs to the Marble Project, which uses OpenStreetMap data to create vector maps that are displayed in a virtual globe similar to Google Earth and Google Maps. Our software runs on Linux, Windows and Android. Find your way and explore the world!

Task Description

Follow the instructions to build Marble on Linux. Make sure to use the "development" button, i.e. check out the master branch. When running cmake add the switch -DEXPERIMENTAL_VECTOR_TILING=TRUE. Once the compilation and installation is finished, run bin/marble or bin/marble-qt and select the "Vector OSM" map theme in the Map Themes panel. (If there is no Vector OSM switch you are running a too old Marble version or did not specify the -DEXPERIMENTAL_VECTOR_TILING=TRUE cmake switch.) Navigate to San Francisco, zoom in far enough and vector tiles will appear on top of the image based map. Create a screenshot of an area you like (which has vector tiles) and upload it as the task result. See this blog for some more details on vector tile support.
