Ubuntu xenial is switching to Gnome Software. The various package information (description, icons…) are coming from an AppStream service which requires metadata to be in the right place. http://162.213.34.169/html/xenial/main/issues/index.html shows such issue in Ubuntu main packages. The student will need to look in upstream projects if they have patches to correct the issues raised by appstream, backport them to Ubuntu. If the fix doesn't exist yet, they need to submit it upstream before patching it in Ubuntu.

Note that this task is vast, multiple students can work on this effort.
